Who We Are

The Active Citizenship project is a collaboration between Bass Coast and South Gippsland Shire Councils, Education Centre Gippsland South Coast Health Services Consortium - Primary Care Partnership, and South Gippsland Bass Coast Local Learning & Employment Network (SG/BCLLEN). The project is an initiative of the Southern Gippsland Learning Communities Advisory Committee and is funded through the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) Volunteer Support Grants Program.

The aim of the project is to strengthen and build community capacity in Southern Gippsland by engaging people to become ‘active citizens’ through a coordinated participation in volunteer centered activities within their local community.

Did you know that our Southern Gippsland communities have a huge and recognised but, sadly often untapped wealth of experience and expertise?  This wealth is a potential community resource – you and your participation can play a vital role in the social and economic well-being of your community.

There are many people already involved in their community in many different ways – participating in sporting and cultural activities, in service and support groups, committees and reference groups, in education and training activities – to mention just a few!

This website represents one way to streamline that participation, with access to search a range of volunteer opportunities posted by those organisations looking for you!

The Active Citizenship website also has information on a wide range of training possibilities offered throughout the region, to encourage easy access to skills development suitable for any volunteering role! Follow the links to local training providers – community houses, community centres, adult education centres and many more!

Have you always wanted to learn a new skill, brush up on first aid, understand the mysteries of bookkeeping or how to write that submission to go for grants? Follow the links to the training provider nearest you.

Do you have a special skill or passion – could you share that skill with others? Take a couple of moments on our survey and let us know!

Check out the latest newsletter and events listing – there is always something happening in your area!
